Winter break

By ‘C’:

Green Gym continues year round.  Our live blog, however, is ‘having five’.  As the FA are proposing for English top-flight football clubs.

Or like this bird, taking a nap so close to a pavement I almost brushed it with my arm as I walked past:
A goldfinch?  Possibly either wishing it had joined those migrating for the winter: to France, Belgium, or Spain.  Or wishing it had not returned so soon after a winter break in warmer climes.

Meantime here are some more pictures taken the morning after Green Gym last week:
Gateway, which was cleared

Ditch, which was cleared

Riverside, where more willow (cleared from another site) was added to stabilise the bank

Oh, and a joke:
Why do birds fly south?
A: Because it’s too far to walk!

The sleeping bird, BTW, was woken by the sound of the shutter on the camera.  (Good to see it was just dozing rather than falling sick.)  It looked at me blearily, gathered itself together, and flew off – I hope to a safer roosting place:
